OpenPrompt for Claude Code and Claude Desktop

Claude Code stays your terminal agent. OpenPrompt is the hub above it: shared project context, a history of your prompts, and a before/after snapshot of what each one changed.

Claude Code as an agent

Connect the Claude CLI in Agent Mode. Describe the work or @mention a project agent: Plan answers without editing files, and Build can change them. You can also open Claude Code on its own tab, where it keeps running while you move between the chat, Git and usage.

Agent CLIs run under your own accounts and licences. What they send, retain and charge for is governed by that vendor, not by OpenPrompt.

Capturing Claude Desktop prompts on macOS

Claude Desktop’s Electron UI can’t host an in-app button, so OpenPrompt captures its prompts through the macOS Accessibility API and a listen-only Enter tap. Shift+Enter, chat switches, clears and slash-command picks are ignored.

That is why macOS asks for Accessibility permission. It is needed only for Claude Desktop; Cursor and the other IDEs are captured from their on-disk transcripts.

What you get for every prompt

  • One thread for every tool, with code blocks and file paths kept as they were typed. Filter by source or favourites, or search.
  • The Prompt Time Machine: open a capture to see the exact lines that prompt changed, then copy it, revert the whole turn, discard one file, or open its diff.
  • A project context file at .openprompt/OpenPrompt.context.mdc, refreshed automatically with your instructions, recent prompts and the files they changed.
  • Commits straight from the diff, with a generated commit message.

Set it up

  1. Download OpenPrompt and sign in.
  2. Create a project and add the folders Claude works in.
  3. To run Claude Code from OpenPrompt, connect the Claude CLI under Agent CLIs. If it isn’t installed, install it from Settings first.
  4. To capture Claude Desktop on a Mac, allow OpenPrompt in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility when macOS asks.

Where the data lives

Captured prompts stay on your machine, in SQLite at ~/.openprompt/prompts.db. Credential-shaped files (env files, .pem and .key files, anything named credentials or containing "secret") are never indexed. You can pause any project from its ⋯ menu in the sidebar, and the privacy policy lists exactly what is sent and when.
